Florida Epsilon brothers Zachary Zarko and Michael Reynolds have been working in cooperation with the Best Buddies International organization to help raise awareness for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Best Buddies program, a non-profit organization, is the world’s largest organization that dedicates itself to ending social, physical, and economic isolation of people with IDD. By creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with IDD, the Best Buddies organization helps over 200 million people.
The Florida Epsilon brothers are responsible to act as liaisons between Best Buddies and their chapter. By communicating upcoming events, sharing information, serving as members and acting as advocates for the organization, the duo intends to generate involvement from their chapter as well as promote respect for not only people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but all people. Zarko and Reynolds aim to teach and implement a “people first language” in their chapter, in which each person’s value, individuality, dignity, and capability is emphasized and respected.
