Billy Boles (North Carolina State ’61); Mike Watford, (Florida ’75); Gary Dudley (Sam Houston State ’69); Thomas Bené (Kansas ’84); and John Thrasher (Florida State ’65) are recognized with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity’s highest professional honor.
Every other year, Florida Epsilon attends the organizations biennial meeting in Houston, Texas. On July 27,2019, Brother John Thrasher, President of Florida State University, was regarded with great respect as he received an award of “highest professional honor” for the fraternity. The Sigma Phi Epsilon Citation has only been given to 251 brothers and to have one of our own receive it is something this chapter is immensely proud of. President John Thrasher graduated from Florida State University in 1965 where he served as the Florida Epsilons secretary and even lived within the fraternity house for two and half years. Sigma Phi Epsilon has opened the eyes of many individuals, to opportunities and success that they pursue in their careers as they strive for academic success. President Thrasher credits the fraternity for teaching him how to build relationships and deal with financial and organizational issues, even stating, “These are important skills that helped me in every leadership position I have held”. As we begin this transition into our new house for the upcoming academic year President Thrasher has been nothing but supportive for this chapter, from attending and speaking at our groundbreaking ceremony to simply ensuring we know that he is there is for us, speaks to the character that President Thrasher embodies. The Florida Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon thanks him for all of his hard work and dedication he provides for not only us, but Florida State University as well. We look forward to the many more accomplishments that President Thrasher sets out to achieve.
